Meet Therapist Katherine Moran, Specializing in Individual Therapy, Trauma Recovery, and Eating Disorders
Hi! My name is Katherine Moran (she/her/hers) and I work with individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, body disturbance and eating disorders.
I studied Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness at New York University and have worked in a variety of settings including Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for eating disorder treatment. In working with eating disorders, I utilize a Health at Every Size approach and promote body acceptance.
I strive to provide a safe and non-judgmental space where clients can truly be themselves and explore their issues with curiosity. I believe that the relationship between client and therapist is extremely important and I strive to establish an authentic connection where my clients feel truly seen.
I use an integrative approach, combining tenants of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). My training in EMDR allows me to help individuals process traumatic or overwhelming experiences so they no longer feel as emotionally intense. I see benefit in using EMDR for many different kinds of clients, not only those who have experienced a “Capital T” trauma.
My favorite thing about being a therapist is helping clients evaluate their belief systems; so often we are telling ourselves old or distorted stories. I love when my clients are able to see things in more nuanced, compassionate ways.
When I’m not working, I enjoy reading, seeing live music and spending time with my family and rescue dogs, Munchie and Maggie.
